RLN supports environmental entrepreneurship

Lagoons are critically important ecologically, economically and culturally to Ghana. They are found everywhere along the coast and most of the coastal cities and towns in the country are built around them. Accra, Cape Coast, Elmina, Tema were all founded around coastal lagoons, which provided the essential resources and services for the growth and development of these communities. However the sustainability of the country’s lagoons is threatened by a perfect storm of climate change, sea level rise, pollution, plastic waste, in adequate resource management. Finding successful solutions to the sustainability of coastal lagoons requires multidimensional approaches. The Resilient Lagoon Network was developed to connect researchers, policymakers and practitioners to lagoon communities from across West Africa and provide a platform to understand key challenges. We have now partnered with innohub to facilitate the development of innovative entrepreneurial solutions to address the challenges faced by lagoons. We are working together to secure the future of lagoons in Ghana, providing technical and business development support to entrepreneurs seeking opportunities in the environmental arena. On May 9th innohub, the Resilient Lagoon Network and the University of Northampton (UK) co-hosted a workshop to explore entrepreneurial solutions for coastal environmental challenges. The workshop brought together academics, practitioners, entrepreneurs and innovators to catalyse entrepreneurial solutions that can address the challenges that are threatening the sustainability of coastal lagoons in Ghana. The workshop will facilitate knowledge exchange, networking and opportunities for project development.
